BLACKBURN born Harry Rennington has landed the top job at his local golf club.
The 60-year-old was elected as captain of Blackburn Golf Club at their recent general meeting.
But despite gaining the honour of captain, Harry has revealed that he regrets not taking up golf earlier in his life.
He said: "I started playing golf in my 40s and wish I had started earlier. It is a great game which helps general fitness and which has a super social side.
"I'm looking forward to my year as captain and hope that I and all the members have an enjoyable year."
Harry was born in Blackburn in 1943 and was educated at St John the Evangelist Primary School and St Peters Secondary Modern School (now St Wilfred's).
After graduating from Loughborough University as a mature student in 1973, he worked in telecommunications and lived in Staffordshire, Leicestershire and Avon before returning to Blackburn in 1981.
In 1994, he became managing Director of Leeds-based telecommunications contracting company MG Telecommunications before retiring from business in January 2000 to devote more time to his family and to his two main hobbies of golf -- and scuba diving.
