UNLIKE most Transco Lancashire League clubs, Todmorden Cricket Club have shown a profit of £1,211 for the year.

And that is in spite of ground and building repairs going up from £8,358 to £10,612 and the cost of hiring the professional, Indian Gyan Pandey's fees being £5,899, compared with the previous year's figures of £3,570.

Match expenses were more than halved (£4,354 from £9,069), while match and ball sponsors went up from £2,174 to £2,337.

Club chairman, Richard Crossland, said: "Everyone has worked really hard for the benefit of the club and that is why our balance sheet is better than any club for miles around. It is a credit to the club and our very keen members of staff."

No-one won higher praise from Mr Crossland than Raymond Dennie, who was unanimously voted the Clubman of the Year by everyone who attended the AGM at Centre Vale Park.

"We are lucky to have such a keen and enthusiastic worker for the club as Ray. He puts in an enormous amount of hours, and he is typical of the club and why our balance sheet is so good."

Mr Dennie, who only joined the committee two years ago and has now taken on the role as chairman of the ground committee, said: "I enjoy the work I do enormously. Nothing gives me more pleasure than cutting the grass, preparing a wicket and tidying up around the ground."
