THE 'battle of slacks' at Maltby ended in a draw when Mrs E Dyson, whose 13-year-old daughter, Muriel, was sent home from Maltby Hall Secondary School by the headmistress for turning up in slacks, sought the advice of a family doctor.
As a result she would probably send Muriel to school in future in her slacks with a skirt to change into on arrival.
With milder weather on the way Lancashire County Police issued a new warning to parents to keep their children off the ice.
