NEW Blackburn midfielder Martin Andresen today vowed to make the most of his second chance in English football.

The Norwegian international admits he struggled to make an impact in the Premiership during a previous spell with Wimbledon five years ago.

Andresen made just four Premiership starts for the Dons before they sold him back to Stabaek in December 2000.

But now the 27-year-old is back in England and ready to prove he can be a success in the top-flight as he attempts to follow in the footsteps of fellow countrymen like Henning Berg and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

"The Premiership is the place to be, especially for a Norwegian," said Andresen, who checked in at Brockhall yesterday.

"We have always followed English football very closely. They show games from England in Norway every weekend so for a Norwegian, the Premiership is very, very special.

"This is my second spell over here. Things didn't go too well when I was at Wimbledon before.

"I liked living in England but on the playing side, Wimbledon's style didn't really suit me because they were very direct.

"But now I feel I'm a much better player and I believe I'm better equipped to handle the English style of play.

"So I'm excited about the challenges ahead and I hope I can be as successful as some of the Norwegian players who have been here before."

Andresen first became aware of Rovers' interest in him earlier this month when he was invited over for a short trial period with the club.

But any hopes of a move appeared to have hit the rocks after the two parties failed to come to an agreement over the terms of a deal.

However, as Monday's transfer deadline approached, Rovers boss Graeme Souness suddenly resurrected his interest and ended up striking a deal to sign the Stabaek player until the end of the season.

"I never thought that was it," said Andresen, referring to the fact that initial talks broke down three weeks ago.

"I was only here for two days and then it was up to the club to sort things out.

"After a while, they decided they wanted me and I then came over to agree personal terms.

"I spoke to Stig Inge Bjornebye (before I signed), who has just been appointed as the assistant manager of the Norwegian national team, and I also spoke with my manager as well.

"Stig said it was a good club with good people and he highly recommended coming here so I'm really looking forward to it."

Rovers reserves are in action tonight. The game against Birmingham City was originally scheduled for a 7pm kick-off at Solihull Borough FC's ground, but the match has now been moved to Birminghan City's ground, St. Andrews. The kick-off time remains 7pm.

Andresen will make his Rovers' debut in midfield.

Alan Mahon and striker Matt Jansen will also play.
