MANY more homes throughout East Lancashire could be getting new kerbside collections to help them recycle more of their rubbish.
The county council has approved plans to offer district councils more cash to improve their waste collection and recycling services.
Under the new proposals district authorities will receive £14.60 for every home in their area that is provided with a separate recycling collection for materials such as garden waste, glass, cans, paper and plastic bottles.
County Coun Brian Johnson, cabinet member for urban and rural regeneration: "This is great news for householders, and for the environment.
"The new arrangements mean that districts will have an incentive to press ahead with offering better recycling services.
"Authorities in Lancashire are committed to making it easier for people to choose to recycle more of their rubbish and Lancashire County Council recognises the need to support this commitment.
"Schemes like this encourage householders to think about what can be recycled and sort it out."
Under the new proposals the county council will be investing over £14 million over the next two years in helping the districts improve recycling, helping to reach Lancashire's target to recycle or compost over half of its rubbish.
