ROSSENDALE were caught cold on a wet and windy day in Ormskirk.
The home side went ahead early with a breakaway try that should have been halted before the half-way line was crossed. Some poor tackling from both forwards and backs allowed the Ormskirk wing to run 70 metres to score in the corner.
Dale rallied and scrum half Adam Hindle opened their scoring with his second penalty kick attempt.
More territorial advantage was gained by Rossendale later in the first half, and after six phases of play, some close forward work led to Dave Whittaker playing at open side scoring close to the posts. Hindle converted to put Dale 10-5 in the lead at half time.
Unfortunately, the second half didn't go quite so well, and Dale found themselves penned in their own half for the majority of the period. Ormskirk took opportunities when they arose and scored two more unconverted tries from mistakes made by Dale.
The final nail in the coffin came when Rossendale was attempting to escape their 22 in the last minutes of the game, Ormskirk scoring again without the conversion to make the final score 20-10 to the home side.
