LEIGH Harrier Tom Boardman produced his finest cross country run of the season to lift his first Northern Championship medal.
Running at Sherdley Park, St Helens, in the youths' 6k race, Tom stormed to bronze after breaking away with the leaders to clock 20min 17sec.
In the same age group Mike Goddard was 42nd in 22min 19sec and Alex Urmston 52nd in 22min 31sec. In the girls' U13 run over 3k Hannah Warburton ran a committed race to finish seventh in 12min 57sec. In her first championship Vicky Green did well to cross the line in 31st in 14min 1sec.
Eleven-years-old Amy Riley in her first year of competition performed well to come home 50th in 14min 14sec. Abigail Howarth was 108th (15min16sec) and Kirsty Hogan 164th in 16min 42sec. Isaac McCann ran well in the boys' U13race over 3k finishing 52st in 13min 22sec. In the ladies U17s' 4.5k Amanda Fearnley was 59th in 21min 59sec.
The girls' U15 over 4k saw Rebecca Howarth achieve her best result in these championships when she finished 36th in 16min 39sec, while below par sister, Lauren, was 86th in 17min 38sec.
Leigh's lone representative in the senior men's event over 12k was John Howarth who clocked 49min 56sec for 177th.
