DATEN Hockey Club's men's first team went down 2-1 to Sale last Saturday.

Sale started well and scored a goal in the first half and although Daten did put the pressure on, they were unable to get an equaliser.

In the second half it was end to end action with Sale scoring a second midway through the half. Daten kept the pressure on and managed a consolation late on.

This week they are at home to West Derby.

The men's second team met Leigh first who were just above them in the league.

Daten made a flying start and scored three times in the first half before Leigh pulled a goal back. In the second half Chris Evans the captain came from the back to score an excellent goal to keep Daten on their toes. Leigh pressed forward but left space at the back and daten ran out 5-2 winners.

This week Daten play Bowden.

The ladies team had there first league fixture following the Christmas break against Wilmslow.

Daten did not have a good first half. Young goalkeeper Carla Metcalf was unlucky to concede the first goal after pushing a shot onto the post and then almost stopped Wilmslow's second just before half time.

Date improved after the break with Dawn Harrington and Jayne Jackson prompting the attack. The midfield of Debbie Holland, Anne Parker and Helen Moffet, produced a few good moves which finally resulted in Corrine Hodge scoring from a pass form Moffet.

Wilmslow had a few breaks but were unable to get through the defence of Katie Parr and Jean Wilcox until near the end of the half which resulted in a third goal. Daten were not finished and with three minutes go Holland drove forward powerfully to set up Harrington to make it 3-2.

This week's game is against Hope (Wrexham) away.
