GOLBORNE Parkside's second team again took centre stage with a 10-6 win at Rylands to put themselves back in promotion contention.
On a brand new Rylands pitch in gale force and rainy conditions, both teams turned in terrific performances.
Despite the terrible conditions, both sides opened up with perfect sets of six. Rylands had several Warrington Wolves Academy players in their side at the same time Golborne had their own amount of young players and a fast, skilful game unfolded.
Golborne took the lead after 20 minutes with a try from loose forward Kirk Wallace after a excellent grubber from 19-year-old stand-off Leon Davy. The conversion attempt from the touchline by David Hindley struck a post.
Play continued to flow from end to end and four minutes before half time Rylands took the lead 6-4 with a converted try.
The second half continued at the same pace and both defences played well with Top Tackler Rob Dooley setting a fine example, closely followed by James Byrne and Chris Miller.
Midway through the half Golborne regained a deserved lead. After a good spell of pressure the ball was worked out to the right and centre James Byrne dived over for a try converted by David Hindley to secure the win.
Man of the match was 19-year-old Papa New Guinea student Jayhu J.B Livernsey who gave some signs of sheer magic in his first full game at scrum half. Half back partner Leon Davy was second and full-back David Long third.
This Saturday the 'A' team are at home to Folly Lane in a game that kicks off at Golborne High School at 2.30pm.
