DARWEN athlete Brian Cole has been told he is well on his way to beating his personal best when he takes part in the London Marathon in April.
The 32-year-old Royal Marine, of Woodville Terrace, met his team-mates in Nike's Team Bowerman - a specially-selected marathon superteam - when they spent a weekend in Athens.
They got to know each other during a sightseeing tour of the area before getting down to training.
Brian said: "They assessed how fit we all were and predicted a time for each of us finishing the marathon. I got the best results. My personal best is 2hr 32min and they predicted I would do it in 2hr 20min.
"But I think I will go for 2hr 25min so I beat my personal best."
Team Bowerman will benefit from exclusive training camps, professional coaching, motion analysis and advice and motivation from reigning women's champion Paula Radcliffe.
Brian was due to race for the Royal Marines yesterday before heading out to Portugal for some warm-weather training.
