A POPULAR Prestwich blacksmith-farrier was borne to his final resting place on Thursday (Feb 5) by a horse-drawn carriage.
It was the centrepiece of a poignant procession in tribute to 40-year-old Philip Jordan's long association with the animals. He died in North Manchester General Hospital last Thursday after an illness. He leaves a wife and two children.
The carriage, which bore his coffin, left Mr Jordan's home in Bury Old Road accompanied by mourners, many of whom included fellow farriers from as far away as Huddersfield. A number of local vets also took part. They walked in silent tribute behind the cortege which travelled to St Mary's Church for the funeral service and burial.
Also present at the procession, led by a piper, were two police horses from Greater Manchester Police's mounted section. Mr Jordan had shod many police horses in Bury, Leigh and Manchester.
