CLITHEROE went from three points behind leaders Mossley to three in front this week -- without playing a game!

The unexpected boost to their quest for the NWCL Division One title came about when Mossley were found to have fielded an unregistered player in their 2-0 win over Glossop North End on December 27.

Mossley have a chance to regain the points when the fixture is replayed, but they have also been hit with a three-point penalty on top of that, giving Clitheroe a three-point lead at the top of Division One with a game in hand.

The Blues can put themselves in even greater contention tomorrow, however, when they go to third placed Woodley Sports.

For manager Lee Sculpher, it's the first game in what he hopes is a rousing run-in to the end of the season.

He said: "Up until now our league form has been very, very good and if we can continue that in the last 16 games I don't think we'll be far off.

"We've always chased the top sides before but this season we are now leading the way and have games in hand to stay top, so that's a real bonus for us."
