RADCLIFFE Athletic Club held their annual Junior Presentation Evening on Friday to mark another good year of competition.
The junior section is by no means an exclusive one, with any youngster over the age of nine welcome - if the talent is there coach Arthur Warren will bring it out!
The club's young athletes are constantly encouraged to push themselves, resulting in improved performances that help the youngsters grow in self confidence and ability.
Leading the way were the under 11 boys - Matthew and David Potts and the in-from Jordan Dolan - who finished second in the South East Lancs Cross Country League, and received the Terry Nortley Trophy in recognition of their impressive achievement.
The trophy is named in honour of the club's senior coach, who ran in the same competition in the 1950s, and Terry was both delighted and honoured to have the trophy named after him.
The Nellie Halstead Trophy, awarded to the club's leading junior female athlete, went to Lindsay Agg, the under 17 champion (who recorded a time of 2min 59secs for the 800m), after running several impressive fell races during the season.
Dawn Warner showed real ability to equal Lindsay's time for the 800m and become the under 15 champion, in addition to performing well in many road, fell and cross country events to win the Stant Trophy.
The championship comprised both high and long jumps, shot putt, discus, javelin, 800m, 200m, and 100m, with competitors' best six-out-of-eight events counting.
Sam Morris completed all eight events but was out-gunned by Jim Howard in the under 13 section.
Similarly, Lorraine Agg put up a good show only to be pipped by Georgina Holt for the under 13 girls' prize.
Lewis Dolan carried off the the under 9 boys title; Abbie Holt was presented with the under 11 girls championship; and Georgina Wiggins took the under 9 accolade, after completing all the events.
