MARK McGREGOR has warned that victory is vital against Gillingham tomorrow to kick-start a climb away from danger.
The Clarets defender refuses to get carried along on the crest of a five game unbeaten run that has lifted spirits at Turf Moor.
However, league form remains a worry and McGregor admits their points tally in recent months will not be enough to kill the spectre of relegation.
McGregor said: "Three points from 21 is just not good enough, but because we are unbeaten since the turn of the year - and we have drawn at Wigan and Crystal Palace and at home to West Brom - they have become three big points.
"Any one of those teams might have expected to beat us, but we picked up a good point at Wigan and we have to follow that up with a home win otherwise that point is worthless.
"We have two home league games on the trot and we have to take advantage of that."
Assistant boss Sam Ellis agrees with McGregor's assessment, but is remaining upbeat as the Clarets gear up for the second clash with the Gills in a fortnight, following their FA Cup fourth round win.
He added: "We could do with turning one or two draws into wins, but other than that we are doing smashing.
"We are still unbeaten this year, but three points would do wonders. Because of where we are in the league people want it immediately, but the staff have the confidence in the players to get on with it and pull us up the league in due course.
"Throughout all the frustration, we score goals and if the back four keeps things tight we will climb up the league." Burnley have top scorer Robbie Blake suspended for the game, leaving the Clarets management team with the headache of how to fill the void.
Ellis said: "Robbie is out and we just have to get on with it. Obviously we will miss him because not only is he a good player, but he scores goals and is a big part of the team.
"But we have to make the best of it and there are plenty other match-winners in the side.
"All the way through the side we have players who can score goals and we don't see it as a major problem for the one game.
"We have always enjoyed good games against Gillingham over the years, but we feel we have edged the results and there is no reason we can't do that again."
Burnley fans are being urged to arrive at Turf Moor early for tomorrow's game to witness a parade of legends.
The club will unveil their new Wall of Legends, outside the Jimmy McIlroy Stand, at around 2pm.
The focus then turns to inside the ground, and at 2.30pm former greats including McIlroy, Ray Pointer, Leighton James, Martin Dobson, Billy Hamilton, Andy Payton and others will be introduced to the crowd.
