IT promises to be a busy twelve months for Stand Golf Club members with a series of events to celebrate 2004, the club's Centenary Year.
First on the agenda is a Cocktail Party to be held on Tuesday, March 2 - the actual date of the inaugural meeting, 100 years ago, when those present determined to set up the club on land donated by Lord Derby.
The celebrations culminate with president P. T. Goodall driving off from the first tee, in period costume, to officially commemorate the first president, Mr T. Statter, striking the first shot on Friday, September 17, 1904.
Other attractions throughout the year are a formal dinner dance at Lancashire Cricket Club's Old Trafford HQ, while June 7 to 13 is scheduled for a Centenary Golf Week.
In addition, the Lancashire Ladies' Championship is being held at Dales Lane over the weekend of May 1, and, as a gesture, the Lancashire County team will take on Durham in a Daily Telegraph Northern Championship League game at Stand.
Non-members and former members are invited to support the Centenary celebrations, information and details of events can be obtained from the club's administration staff on 0161-766 3197 or by visiting the club any weekday.
