REGARDING the letter about Alan Barnes and Diane Holgate, stars of 'Whistle Down the Wind' (LET, January 31), my husband was assistant manager at Burnley Odeon when they were making the film in Downham.
Every evening after a day's filming the producers would go to the Odeon and view the rushes.
Consequently, my husband met Richard Attenborough, Bryan Forbes, John and Hayley Mills and Mary Hayley Bell on several occasions and I had a privileged seat at the Northern Premiere at the Odeon and I still have some of the official photographs.
In an article in the LET in January, 1998, about 'Whistle Down the Wind' we were told that 48-year-old Diane Holgate (now Poole), has two daughters and runs a livery business on land near Northwich, Cheshire, owned by Pete Waterman.
In 1998 Alan Barnes was 45, married with two grown-up children and had a double-glazing business in Ribchester.
