GLEN Little warned Burnley they are not safe yet after notching his first goal in 10 months to seal a vital victory over Gillingham.

Little struck with just eight minutes left to register on the scoresheet for the first time since March 2003.

And after earning the Clarets their first win in two months, despite remaining unbeaten this year, the winger still sees a relegation battle ahead over the coming months.

Little said: "It's been a long time and we have been doing okay, but not winning. At the end you run out of words to say, and you look at the table and see teams pulling away from you.

"You have to say Bradford and Wimbledon are probably gone now and it's one out of four or five to go down with them.

"All we can do is take care of ourselves and if we can win another five games that should be enough."

LIttle, whose last goal came at Walsall last season, added: "I've had a few chances this season and sometimes that's the way it goes.

"I've never judged myself on scoring goals because I get a lot of pleasure setting them up, but of course it's always nice to score.

"When the ball went up in the air I don't think Neil Wood intended to get as much height on it as he did.

"You probably have to say the keeper should have got it, but I thought I'll stick a long leg out and I was happy to see it go through his legs.

"At the end of the day, it was a terrible match and it is probably the worst we have played for some time. But we got the points and winning is all that matters."

Clarets boss Stan Ternent missed the long-overdue victory after being advised to stay away from Turf Moor for fear of spreading a virus in FA Cup week.

Assistant boss Sam Ellis explained: "Stan has a virus and he was under doctor's orders and confined to barracks.

"It's contagious in that the doctor said if he came there was a risk he could pass it round and we would be under the weather next week.

"I spoke to him after the match and he enjoyed the result and the clean sheet."
