IN support of J A Clegg's comments (February 2) the subject of speed cameras has been very emotive and much discussed topic for very many months.
I particularly agree with his observations regarding the camera situation in Great Harwood, which I believe has resulted in many fines and penalty points since the reduction in speed limit from 40 to 30mph.
The poor quality of warning signs and their inadequate fixings on the approach to A680 from side roads has indeed caused much concern and distress to drivers who have been caught, many probably for the first time in their driving career.
What I find particularly disturbing is that Lancashire Constabulary have admitted that prosecution has been unfair and have absolved drivers who were brave enough to face court action, whilst others have had to suffer the ignominy in being accused of breaking the law.
Surely this admission should apply to all those caught - at the least up to the date of the court hearings, otherwise what faith can we have in such legal proceedings?
