PLANS for a new industrial unit in Ainsworth Vale have been delayed following a controversy over access.
The building would lie north of Vale Mill and east of the boundary between Bolton and Bury. But residents of Vale Street complained that too many heavy vehicles were already using their narrow road to reach the site from Bury New Road.
Householders expressed fears that someone would be injured, and that there was a possibility of damage to property.
Members of the planning committee heard that neighbouring units used an alternative route from the main road inside Bolton.
Councillor Barry Briggs said more effort should have been made to share access when the site was developed.
Coun Briggs said: "There are several landowners involved with this site and I think an opportunity was wasted for the owners to come together and develop this site in a coherent way."
Coun Bob Bibby, said: "These people are living under intolerable circumstances."
However, Coun Mike Connolly pointed out that without valid planning reasons, a refusal would be irresponsible.
The committee put off making a decision until the next planning meeting, on March 9.
