DRIVERS at the junction of Dumers Lane and Manchester Road have been left scratching their heads
Turning arrow markings on the right hand turn lane from Bury showed that motorists could drive straight ahead or turn right.
However, arrows further along the carriageway indicated that motorists should go straight ahead or left, a marking mistake.
Members of the North Manchester Driving Instructors' Association complained the marking mistake was posing serious problems for inexperienced motorists.
Learner drivers from outside the area, particularly those on test, were hardest hit.
Brian Holland, of Bury Driving School, said: "We're actually doing tests for Rochdale at the moment so there are quite a few examiners who don't know the area themselves.
"That has been causing a few problems and its also slightly dangerous. There's going to be an accidents and somebody is going to be suing the council."
Speaking last Friday (Feb 6), Bury Council's Highways Network Manager Ian Crook said the problem was being addressed.
He said: "We know about it and have had a problem with the white lining contractors who are working at full capacity at the moment.
"Weather conditions over the last few weeks haven't been helpful because it is difficult to do this sort of work in the wet weather and snow."
The markings were corrected at weekend.
