WALKERS from Bury will be going backwards to go forwards at an annual moorland fundraiser.
In a new twist to tradition, hikers taking part in the 45-mile Rossendale Way in a Day challenge, will be able to complete the route in a clockwise direction rather than anti-clockwise.
The change will also enable trekkers who have completed the 22-mile Half Way in a Day to experience the opposite end of the trail.
The Rossendale Way in a Day, which will take place on July 3, is organised by the Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue Team.
The entry fee for both walks is £10 and prizes will be awarded for the first walkers and runners back on both distances. The team will be on hand all day providing food and drinks, followed by a meal on completion of the distance.
Organiser Andy Ellis said: "Rossendale Way in a Day veterans will know that this is a thoroughly enjoyable day, meeting new friends or catching up with old ones.
"Whether you're a fitness fanatic or just fancy a long walk, come along and support your local Mountain Rescue Team."
The team, which is made up of volunteers and is on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, is a registered charity providing specialist search and mountain rescue services at the request of the Greater Manchester and Lancashire police and ambulance services.
For more information and an entry form contact Andy Ellis at Rossendale & Pendle Mountain Rescue Team, 46 Clegg Street, Haslingden, Lancs, BB4 5LW, or call 01706 217371 (before 9pm).
