BACUP Borough brushed neighbours Ramsbottom aside in this local derby.

The deadlock was broken on 21 minutes when Lee Anderson won a throw-in and Lee Wilkinson held up the ball before playing the ball behind the Ramsbottom defence for Darren Emmett to slot past keeper Paul Horridge.

The second goal was a quality finish. Wilkinson dispossessed a defender and faced with a narrow angle, with sheer precision, he clipped his shot over Horridge into the net.

Two minutes later Bacup were three up when the ball was played wide to Rhodri Giggs who advanced into the penalty area. His quick feet were too much for the Ramsbottom rearguard who brought him down. Up stepped captain Steve Stott to convert the penalty.

On 43 minutes the frustration proved too much for Ramsbottom's Chris Clarke when he was shown his second yellow card and was dismissed leaving the Rams with a mountain to climb in the second half.

Nicky Taylor, Giggs and Stuart Telfer all had chances to increase Bacup's lead but on 54 minutes it was Ramsbottom who pulled a goal back when Darren Esdaille gave a free-kick away, which resulted in Paul Davies putting the ball through his own goal.

Four minutes later Bacup produced some quality football which resulted in Taylor, Wilkinson, Karl Stanley and Telfer playing one touch football before releasing Giggs to make the score 4-1.

On 67 minutes Ramsbottom did manage to pull another goal back when Lee Buggie turned Sean Cryer before shooting. The ball came back off David Felgate and was scrambled over the line.

Giggs had the chance to put the game well beyond Ramsbottom when he was one-on-one with Horridge but shot wide.

Bacup won a corner in the closing minutes. The ball dropped to Taylor, whose shot was deflected to Telfer who made it five with a stunning shot.
