POLICE are appealing for information after a serious assault.
A 56-year-old woman spent two days in hospital suffering from cuts to her head, black eyes, a broken nose, a suspected fractured cheekbone and bruising following the incident in Sharp Street, Burnley.
The woman, who walks with a crutch which has not yet been found, was talking to another woman in a dark secluded area next to the recreation ground between 10.30pm on Wednesday and 2.45am on Thursday.
A man, described as white, in his mid-20s and with closely-cropped hair, is thought to have approached her and attacked her.
The woman the victim was talking to has been described as being aged between 30 and 40 with long blond hair.
DS Dave Lord, of Burnley CID, said: "This is a very serious incident and I would appeal for anybody who has seen it, or who has any information, to contact police."
