THE chairman of Lancashire County Council, Vali Patel is celebrating after being named as a shining example to others.
County Councillor Patel was chosen as the winner of the Lloyds TSB Asian Jewel Award 2004 for Public Service Excellence (Northern).
The award applauds the vast contribution made by individuals within the public sector. At a glamorous and prestigious ceremony in Manchester, the winner was announced from a shortlist of four people. The event also involved music, dancing and dinner.
The other shortlisted nominees were Mr Khalid Saifullah (Chief Executive of the Lancashire Business Federation), Mr Mohammed Haroon (Senior Civil Servant at the Department for Education and Skills) and Inspector Balihar Singh (Greater Manchester Police).
The Lloyds TSB Asian Jewel Awards recognise the achievements and success made by Asian men and women in the business world, in community life or in the arts.
