THE ABI (Association of British Insurance) says it believes there are in excess of one million drivers on the roads without insurance. I wondered what Ian Bell of the Road Safety Partnership and the police are planning to do about it -- put up another 1,000 speed cameras?
No insurance equals no responsibility on the road and a figure of more than a million is beyond belief.
Surely in the modern era of computer data bases they should be capable of identifying the cars concerned and taking action, certainly given the amount of data the insurance company and DVLA record about my car you would think it should be possible.
Instead, they are obsessed with easy targets such as those with insurance who drive at 32mph past a speed camera -- how ridiculous when you consider there are more than a million drivers without insurance.
To add insult to injury the ABI also said that every honest motorist pays a considerable increased premium on their insurance to compensate for this.
Come on Mr Bell, get your act together.
On a lighter note, the man who wrote in saying we should switch off speed cameras but keep them as a reminder of a Labour government forgot one thing. We have the only local council in the country who would be only too happy to do this -- because they would match all the other metal monstrosities stuck up in the last few years!
