LORENZO Amoruso is considering a shock return to international football - with Scotland!
The Blackburn Rovers defender, whose only previous caps came at under 21 level for Italy, learnt yesterday that, under new FIFA rules, he now qualifies for the Scottish national side because he spent more than five years at Glasgow Rangers.
Amoruso said today: "I only heard about it yesterday so I haven't really thought about it. I need to speak to people and consider my whole future as well, so I don't know. I won't be making any decision for a while.
"A reporter in Scotland told me about it, but as I played for Italy under 21s in the past I didn't think I could play for another country, but they say I can.
"I don't think anything about it now because I live day to day, but if it's the case that I get a call-up I'll tell you my thoughts then. At the moment I don't really bother about it."
The 32-year-old still has enough years left in him to help Berti Vogts' squad in the 2006 World Cup qualifiers - where they are in the same group as Italy.
Amoruso hasn't played for Rovers since October because of a knee injury but is set for a return after this Saturday's Premiership trip to Charlton Athletic.
Brett Emerton could also miss the game as he is having treatment for an ankle injury sustained in last week's 1-1 draw with Newcastle .
It has forced him out of Australia's midweek friendly in Venezuela, but Lucas Neill is set to make the trip.
The Aussie defender has, however, criticised the timing of the international match as the 9,000-mile round trip is set to disrupt his preparation for Charlton.
Neill said: 'It's inconvenient to say the least but if your country calls there is little you can do about it."
ROVERS Ladies maintained their unbeaten run with a 5-0 thumping of Blackpool Wren Rovers at the Academy.
Rovers have won all thirteen of their Northern Combination games this season yet nearest challengers East Durham and Newcastle United are just two points behind in second and third place.
