IN a couple of weeks time it will be the 20th anniversary of the longest industrial dispute this country has ever known - the Miners Strike.
Tens of thousands of miners went on strike following an announcement by Coal Board Chairman Ian McGregor that 20 uneconomic pits would have to close, putting 20,000 men out of work.
The year-long action was marred by violent confrontations at the picket lines and caused great hardship in mining communities.
Was your community hit by the strike? Were you on strike yourself? Did you work through the strike? Or were you one of the 3,000 extra officers deployed to police the pickets?
If you were involved, why not tell your story in the Journal. Write to 'Miners Strike', Leigh Journal, 44-46 Railway Road, Leigh, WN7 4AT or email Mike Hulme
All correspondence should be submitted before February 27.
