BACUP Borough were always in control of this physical encounter after they took the lead on four minutes.

Rhodri Giggs did well before playing the ball into Lee Wilkinson, who held the ball up, turned and laid it to the advancing Karl Stanley who shot Bacup into the lead.

A quarter of the way through the half Bacup almost increased their lead when Lee Anderson's header was just over from a corner, then good approach play involving Nicky Taylor and Stuart Telfer resulted in Giggs' slight touch putting the ball just past the post.

On 43 minutes Bacup increased their lead when Stanley made a deep penetrating run before cutting inside and striking a low, hard ball that Giggs got on the end of to divert the ball past the Collieries keeper.

In the second half the visitors made a bright start but did not threaten the home side's goal apart from when Lee Anderson blocked a goalbound shot that went for a corner.

Bacup then had a goal ruled out after Giggs played the ball to Lee Kershaw, who played a pass into the path of Anderson but the linesman ruled him offside.

On 76 minutes Kershaw again put a defence-splitting ball through that Giggs latched onto. He drew the keeper, went round a defender then finished with style.

In the final 10 minutes manager Brent Peters replaced Giggs and Wilkinson, who along with the rest of the side had worked hard in intimidating circumstances to secure the points for Bacup.
