DERELICT swimming baths could soon make way for a brand new gateway into Lancaster.
The blueprint for another phase of development for Kingsway baths, on Bulk Road, has been lodged with Lancaster City planners.
It is due to be discussed on Monday - and looks likely to be given the go-ahead.
The scheme from Liberty Properties, for the Bridge Houses on Back Caton Road, Bulk Road and Parliament Street, would see two new buildings spring up for shop and residential use.
The bus depot is earmarked for a block of 100 apartments and the bridge houses could be converted into shops.
English Heritage welcomes the proposals for the repair and refurbishment of the bridge houses.
And Lancaster Civic Society agrees with the regeneration of the buildings but says it is worried that some planned features - such as the roof -will look 'alien' in the city.
Other concerns involve developing another retail park in the area, with large stores which Real Planning for Lancaster say will not be in keeping with the area, and the possibility of extra congestion in the city.
