SKATERS could be showing off their turns and half-pikes in Morecambe - if city planners support a bid for a new venue on Central Drive.
Lancaster City Council wants to turn part of the bus station adjoining the 'Flock of Words' poetry path into a skateboard park to give young people somewhere to call their own.
If planning committee members support the move at a meeting next Monday, an 11-metre high raised trough-shaped arena will be constructed in concrete.
It will mark the end of a lengthy search by leisure services officials for a site in the resort.
Part of the promenade was previously considered but later rejected in the face of opposition from nearby businesses and residents.
But Central Drive is the favoured site among skateboarders - and now the board of Poulton Neighbourhood Management has pledged £50,000 funding towards the costs.
Environmental Health officers have raised concerns about possible noise nuisance and suggest that an acoustic barrier such as a wall or fence be put up around the planned skateboard arena.
A report to committee members, which recommends support for the project, states that the car park affected is 'very lightly used'.
The site is covered by existing CCTV cameras which should help stop any vandalism or misuse.
