SMART Bury firm GK Bio Products has been awarded £45,000 to help turn its bright idea into a marketable product.
The cash comes from a feasibility study award made under the Small Business Service's Smart initiative that provides grants for research and development.
Laboratories testing for micro-organisms in food need to validate their procedures by analysing reference material and GK Bio, based at Britannia House in Cobden Street, is investigating replacing existing powered reference materials with a modified format which would be easier to assess and cheaper to produce.
The £45,000 funding under the Small Business Service is part of its scheme to help individuals and small and medium sized businesses to research and develop technologically innovative products and processes.
