A SOUND first half, in which they scored 15 points, laid the platform for Leigh RU's first XV to carve out an 18-3 win at Birchfield.

Leigh took an early lead with a Fisher penalty goal and then extended it shortly afterwards when Wilcock split the defence to sprint unopposed to the posts. Fisher converted for a 10 point lead.

Further scrummage pressure by the Leigh pack allowed them to capitalise on a defensive mistake and the ball was moved swiftly across field for Lee to touchdown for an unconverted try.

Birchfield replied with a penalty.

In the second half, Leigh attacked strongly for a sustained period but could not break down a resolute defence on a narrow pitch. A number of substitutions had little impact and Leigh's second half score was restricted to a single long range penalty goal from Wilcock.

Hawks 6 LSH 16

Leigh lost out in a hard fought game against unbeaten league leaders Liverpool St Helens. Greenwood opened the scoring in the first 10 minutes with a long range penalty but by half time LSH were 6-3 ahead.

Greenwood's penalty shot levelled things at the start of the second half but a missed tackle allowed the LSH No 8 to reach the line and touch down. A drop goal late on added to the Leigh woes.

Leigh U15s 10 West Park 24

Against a massive Park side Leigh knew they had their work cut out. Park scored a converted try but Leigh were beginning to find their rhythm and made the ball do the hard work. This resulted in two great tries from Pendlebury and Bond to lead at half-time.

Unfortunately Leigh made a few costly mistakes and Park took full advantage to score three tries.

Leigh U13s 0 Vale of Lune 38

Leigh had high hopes of taking something from this Lancashire Cup semi-final, particularly with home advantage. However, an experienced Vale of Lune side proved too strong, demonstrating throughout good interchanges of play and ball retention between forwards and backs. Opportunities for Leigh to win ball were limited, reflected in a half time score of 26-0.

In the second half and with wind advantage, Leigh came back well. David Taylor and Martin Howard combined to offer Leigh's best scoring opportunity. Vale added two more tries, both unconverted.
