WE ARE fighting to stop the development by Morris Homes of the greenfield site adjoining the SSSI status Marton Mere.
The land is between Lawson Road/Quernmore Ave and the old Pixie House Mushroom site (Mere Farm - Morris Homes). The current development has over 90 houses (built on the old brownfield site that was the mushroom farm) and they have proposed another 50 house extension alongside that development onto the greenfield site adjoining the Nature Reserve -- Blackpool Council Planning Request 03/1212.
My question is that now Blackpool Council have agreed the greenfield status of this land (phone call with council planning official - 13 Feb 2004 and newspaper article 12 Feb 2004) will they abide by the Revised Local Plan (deletion of greenfield housing sites) and delete this development and deny Morris Homes planning permission/any appeal?
The greenfield site comprises of the woodland area and four marshy reedbed fields -- one of which belongs to the Friends of Marton Mere Nature Reserve. I would hope that would be the case as this area is also very prone to extensive flooding and we would not want to see East Park Drive/Fairclough Homes scenario again.
Also the area of Cornwall Place/Preston Old Road roundabout has proved to be more dangerous for school children at Stanley School and other road users.
Another 60 odd cars added to the over 100 from the current brownfield development is an accident waiting to happen. This is on top of the overload from this proposed building scheme extension on the local roads, schools and amenities in the area.
The area should be left as a greenfield site for local people to enjoy the environment around them.
