POLICE in the Ribble Valley have warned golfers not to leave club sets unattended in cars, after a spate of thefts.

Insp Bob Ford, of Clitheroe police, issued the warning following thefts at Clitheroe and Wilpshire Golf Clubs.

At Clitheroe Golf Club, Whalley Road, a Mitsubishi Shogun on the rear car park was broken into and a set of Taylor Made gold clubs and woods were stolen.

The haul was valued at £2,000.

At the scene of the theft, which took place at 6pm on Tuesday, police found paperwork linking the crime to the theft of a lap top from a red Nissan van at Wilpshire Golf Club earlier in the day.

Another car was broken into on Tuesday evening at the Clarion Hotel, in Langho and a CD player was stolen.

Insp Ford said: "I would appeal to golfers not to leave valuable equipment and golf clubs unattended in their cars.

"If golfers are in the club house they should keep their golf clubs in the club house, too and not unattended.

"I would also appeal to golfers to report any suspicious activity to the police."
