BURNLEY Football Club's star players have teamed up with Lancashire County Council's Road Safety Group for a thought-provoking new campaign targeting 16- to 19-year-olds.
A special production of Never Saw The Day will be performed at Burnley College on Thursday. Based on a true story, the hard-hitting drama focuses on how an aggressive attitude to driving affects a group of friends after a crash. Members of the Burnley FC squad, who are supporting the campaign, will attend.
The production is part of the council's '1 in 5' campaign and involves a three-week touring theatre. Pupils will receive a resource pack, including a booklet with information for new drivers, posters and videos on hazard perception. Teachers will receive extra notes to allow further work in class.
Burnley FC chief executive, Dave Edmundson, said: "We are delighted to be working with the Road Safety Group on what I feel sure will be the start of many years of collaboration."
Hazel Harding, leader of the council, said: "We are committed to continuing to improve safety on the county's roads. The link with Burnley FC provides an ideal opportunity to raise awareness of road safety to a key target group - young active people."
The play forms part of the Theatre in Education initiative and will tour until March 12. For more information, visit www.lancashireroadsafety.co.uk or call 0800 328 1635.
