CLITHEROE'S first clean sheet since early December was the catalyst for another crucial three points which keeps them at the top of the North West Counties League.
After just seven minutes a shot from Paul Stansfield rebounded back off the post and Stone defender Alan Barker watched helplessly as the ball bounced off him and into the empty net.
Stansfield went close again on 27 minutes with a curling shot and home side never really troubled the Blues although Kris Richens made a smart save on the stroke of half time from a Paul Taylor header.
Clitheroe's defensive dominance saw them able to cope with the Stone pressure late on although they were grateful for a great Richens save on 78 minutes. The Clitheroe keeper saw a 30-yard shot from Martin Heath late but he reacted quickly to tip the ball over and ensure Clitheroe returned home with all three points.
