ROSSENDALE produced a superb battling performance to give them a surprise win at high flying Bridlington Town.

The game began in controversial circumstances when on loan striker Damien Hindle looked to have been bundled over by Bridlington's Craig Suddaby, but the Scarborough-based official waved away the penalty appeals.

Dale keeper Mark Andrews then produced a good save to block Paul Palmer's effort and soon after he raced off his line to claim the ball at the Bridlington striker's feet.

The remainder of the half produced little goalmouth action until five minutes before the break. Hindle's shot on the turn was kept out by Chris Hill's contender for save of the season.

Steve Heath went down under Greg Challender's challenge as both players contested a high ball. This time the official pointed to the spot but Mark Andrews saved Martin Thacker's spot kick with his legs.

Rossendale took the lead four minutes later, after Hindle chased a long throughball to beat the onrushing keeper and slot the ball home from a narrow angle.
