Regarding the article "Pick'n'mix is the fresh way forward,' I would like to comment that there are definite reasons for parents to marry from abroad.
I think parents and relatives in this country tend to marry from abroad because they feel youngsters here are losing some of their cultural values that our parents hold so dearly. So marrying from abroad is a way of re-asserting their values within their immediate families. Also parents are afraid of change and would rather bring over a relative who is less westernised.
But it is this really a bad thing? And not all who are married to people from the UK are here for money. There many hard-working people among them.
