Road safety issues are to come under a spotlight as Lancshire Constabulary tackles the nuisance of irresponsible driving in the Brookhouse area of Blackburn.
During 2003 police received more than 500 complaints from local shopkeepers, residents and other road users regarding offences in the area.
Police say 153 road traffic collisions have taken place in the area and this is one of the highest in the town. Complaints have ranged from inconsiderate and illegal parking to driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
Road traffic accidents are made worse by the fact some drivers and passengers refuse to wear seat belts.
Sgt Rachael Sandham of Blackburn Police told Asian Image: "Drivers are asked to ensure their behaviour is not contributing to the level of accidents in the area.
"Over the forthcoming weeks, uniformed police officers will be in the area in order to educate drivers and where necessary enforce traffic legislation.
"We are asking for the community's co-operation to help reduce the number of traffic related incidents."
Anyone wanting further information about the awareness campaign should call Sgt Rachael Sandham on 01254 51212.
