Featherstone Lions 6 Leigh Miners Rangers 20: LEIGH Miners improved their hopes of a Top Six play-off spot with a 20-6 away victory over already relegated Featherstone Lions.
The Leigh side always seemed to have something in reserve and with Great Britain captain Tommy Goulden prominent, they were never in any danger of slipping up.
The Miners got off to a flying start when second row Dave Radley broke clear and sent full-back Darren Pilkington racing in for a try that Radley improved.
Radley's reliable boot made it 8-0 with a penalty before the visitors' defence was severely tested as Wayne Simpson and Simon Thompson were both stopped close to the line.
Martin Ridyard almost snatched a Miners try but they had to settle for an 8-0 lead at the break.
Again the Miners got off to a flying start. Liam McCarthy sped 40 metres before sending Radley in for an unconverted try. But Radley was able to stretch the Miners lead with another successful penalty soon afterwards.
The result was sewn up 11 minutes from time when Alan Reddicliffe, supporting a Craig Graham break, went half the length of the field. Again Radley converted.
The Lions finally grabbed a consolation try in the 72nd minute from Jason Wood with Craig Duda converting.
