TWO Bury police officers battled in vain to save the life of a motorist who had collapsed at the wheel of his car.
Traffic officer Nigel Everett and PC Becky Gore pulled Mr James Green from the driver's seat of his Fiat Tipo and performed mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on him until paramedics arrived.
However, the 77-year-old of Warth Road, Radcliffe, was pronounced dead on arrival at Fairfield General Hospital.
He is believed to have suffered a heart attack.
At 9am on Tuesday (Feb 24) Mr Green was driving towards Bury along Radcliffe Road in Radcliffe when he pulled behind a line of cars at traffic lights at the Manchester Road junction.
He then collapsed at the wheel.
Motorists alerted PCs Everett and Gore who were in a police car several vehicles behind.
They ran to the Fiat and found Mr Green slumped across the passenger seat.
A member of the public called for an ambulance as the officers tried to save Mr Green's life.
