MP Gordon Prentice is giving his full support to a special promotion weekend aimed at raising the profile of volunteer police officers in East Lancashire.
This weekend has been declared National Specials Weekend by all 43 police forces in England and Wales and is designed to recognise the contribution volunteers make to local policing
The Pendle Labour MP said: "Special constables (volunteer police constables) contribute an enormous amount to their local communities.
"Their dedication and professionalism is extremely valuable in the fight against crime.
"The aim of the weekend in which all 43 police forces in England and Wales will have as many as possible of their specials working - is to encourage more recruits by raising the profile of the Special Constabulary and recognising the enormous contribution made by its members to local policing.
"I very much hope the event is successful, the specials are a very necessary part of our police force - and along with their police colleagues they do sterling work."
