YORKSHIRE and England cricket legend Fred Trueman worked up a bit too much pace as he drove home from a charity function.
Blackburn magistrates heard that 73-year-old 'Fiery Fred', as he was nicknamed, was clocked doing 74mph in a 60mph zone on the A59 near Clitheroe last August.
Trueman, 73, of Flasby, near Skipton, pleaded guilty by letter to speeding. He was fined £60 with £35 costs and his licence endorsed with three penalty points.
A letter to the court from his solicitor said Trueman had been speaking at a charity function in Stratford-on-Avon.
