A GENESIS exodus has brought numbers to Bury!
For 300 jobs have come to the town's Waterfold Park with a further 100 to be created by Genesis Communications in the next 18 months.
The company, which is the UK's leading business mobile service provider, re-located from its previous base at Old Trafford earlier this year.
It occupies the top floor at the premises of PC World Business. Both firms are embraced within the Dixons Group plc whose chairman attended Tuesday's (Feb 24) official opening.
Genesis managing director Mr Rob Rawlinson confirmed the company would increase its workforce by 100 within the next year and a half.
"This is due to the fact that our sector is growing and the fact we are also involved in wireless data which brings many opportunities for the future."
Although he acknowledged that competition within the business mobile phone service market was "cut-throat", he pointed out that with wireless data, there are far fewer competitors.
Commenting on the 100 new jobs, he added: "These will be filled in our contact centre but a number of jobs will also involve sales functions.
"We have settled well into Bury and, in particular, it's good to integrate with PC World Business which is also in our group."
He said the new premises offered Genesis an extra 5,000 sq ft of floorspace compared to their previous headquarters.
The company was launched as a private concern in 1995 before being acquired by the Dixons Group in 2002.
Asked if he was pleased with the role Genesis was playing within the group, Dixons Group plc chairman Sir John Collins said: "It was expensive but a very worthwhile investment. It fits very well with the rest of our group.
"When I was last in Bury, there was an empty top floor in the PC World Business building which we knew would be just right for Genesis."
