BORO's attempts to sign Shrewsbury centre-half Greg Rioch, son of former Bolton boss Bruce Rioch, on loan, appear to have failed.
The move came after news that Stalybridge Celtic had insisted upon the return of Terry Bowker, after his loan deal with Boro expired.
The 23-year-old centre back played his final game at Barrow, however, Kevin Glendon has not yet given up hope of retaining his services.
"I think the Rioch deal is dead, but I'm trying to hang on to Terry. I'm going back to Dave Miller at Stalybridge to see if they'll let me play him on a game-by-game basis. He's fitted in really well and he didn't want to leave.
"If I can't keep him we'll just have to go with what we've got, so we'll just have to wait and see."
