RACEHORSE owner Darren Mercer, from Prestwich, is to face a Jockey Club inquiry over accusations he laid his own horse to lose.
The horse Joss Naylor was due to run in the Welsh National at Chepstow in December, but was withdrawn prior to the race because of 'flu.
Mr Mercer has been charged with laying the horse on the betting exchanges, which, because he is an owner, is against Jockey Club regulations.
It is alleged that Mr Mercer had accepted bets that the horse would lose when he was aware it was not going to run.
The disciplinary inquiry is due to be heard next month.
