A DRUNKEN birthday night out proved costly when a 24-year-old man smashed a charity shop window.
Jobless Mark Scott was ordered to pay £1,004.53 compensation by Burnley magistrates who had been told how he broke the British Red Cross Society window in the town.
The bench heard how the defendant was spotted "donkey kicking" at shops and was shouting and swearing at members of the public. He was taken to the police station, said he had had a lot to drink and remembered neither what had gone on nor how much he had had to drink.
The defendant, of Wordsworth Street, Hapton, admitted criminal damage and being drunk and disorderly. He was given a 12 months conditional discharge by the bench who said he was of previous impeccable character, but the offences were aggravated by the fact the target of his conduct was a charity shop.
