MANCHESTER United today sprung to Burnley's rescue by allowing Neil Wood to remain on loan at Burnley for a further two months.
And Clarets boss Stan Ternent is still hopeful of persuading Newcastle and Charlton to grant Bradley Orr and Paul Rachubka an extended Turf Moor spell.
Ternent will turn his hand to solving that particular problem after today's First Division clash at Millwall.
But in the meantime, he expressed his delight at retaining the services of Reds midfielder Wood.
He said: "Once again I am grateful to Sir Alex (Ferguson) for allowing Neil to stay here for another two months.
"It means we will have him from now until the end of April, when we will only have two more games to play, so that's good news."
Wood, 21, had started three games for the Clarets ahead of today's meeting with Millwall, which he was hopeful of making after recovering from a knee injury.
He went straight into the side at Wigan in late January, making an impressive debut on the left side of midfield.
The following week, against Gillingham, he made his mark by supplying the killer ball for Glen Little to earn Burnley a vital three points.
Wood then earned himself a yellow card in his third game - the fiery FA Cup clash at Millwall that saw the Clarets crash out - before an injury suffered in training ruled him out of last week's double header against Ipswich and Reading.
Orr and Rachubka have required more patience over the past month, both being named as substitutes in each game before today's New Den clash.
Orr, 21, was all set to start against the Lions after making three appearances from the bench and gaining 45 minutes action as a replacement for Richard Chaplow at Reading in midweek.
However, Rachubka is still waiting for a chance to take over between the posts from Danish goalkeeper Brian Jensen.
Ternent, meanwhile, still has one more loan deal at his disposal this season after utilising seven of the eight allowed under Football League rules.
In addition to the current trio on Burnley's books, the Clarets chief has dipped into the loan market for Blackburn defenders Andy Todd and Jay McEveley, along with Bolton striker Delroy Facey and Reebok colleague Gareth Farrelly.
