Leigh RMI 4 Margate 2 by David Magilton: LEIGH RMI gave Margate a lesson in finishing with a rare victory to lift their spirits in the desperate fight to avoid relegation.

With just one win in nine games and with decisions and results not going their way, RMI boss Phil Starbuck has felt the pressure, but his unquestioned optimism paid dividends when his slowly improving side delivered the goods.

The Railwaymen had a dream start with a goal in the seventh minute, when Mario Daniel's superb cross had Phil Smith at full stretch and the keeper could only palm the ball into the path of Steve Brodie, who headed it home.

RMI went two up in the 29th minute when skipper Graham Parker upended the dashing Daniel in the box and David McNiven crashed home his 23rd goal of the season from the penalty spot.

Two minutes later and slack marking gave Margate a lifeline when Rocky Baptiste's cross found the unmarked Adrian Clarke and he looped a header over the keeper.

Their joy was short-lived, when in the 31st minute, Bill Edwards was forced into a hurried back pass to the keeper, who with McNiven hounding him, miskicked and a grateful Brodie tucked home his second goal.

The dangerous Daniel made the game safe with a superb 66th minute drive before Margate pulled a goal back two minutes from time when big sub Darren Watson blasted the ball home off the upright.
