POLICE were today investigating claims of a burglary and arson attack at a takeaway restaurant in Clayton-le-Moors.
Officers said the Alahi Tandoori takeaway in Whalley Road, was badly damaged by the fire following a robbery at the premises earlier.
The flames then spread to the neighbouring Zorba's restaurant, damaging the property.
Fire officers, who are analysing the cause of the suspicious blaze, said the fire started at 6.15am today.
Three fire appliances attended from Accrington and Great Harwood stations to quell the flames.
The fire investigating dog was at the scene today to help investigators find out clues as to the cause of the fire.
Police were also on the scene to carry out their own investigations about the alleged incident.
The owners had been working in the shop into the early hours of this morning but no-one was there at the time of the fire.
There were flats above the take-away and fire fighters used breathing apparatus to search to the premises which turned out to be empty.
Station Officer Hollis said: "The fire is suspicious. It appears there has been forced entry and a burglary at the premises and then an arson attack." Police scenes of crimes officers were at the scene today.
